Motly

Privacy Policy

Effective July 29, 2026

Motly is a local-first vocabulary app. Preferences and saved words stay on your device. Motly does not create accounts, sell personal data, or use advertising or analytics SDKs.

Who we are

This Privacy Policy describes how Motly (“Motly,” “we,” or “the app”) handles information when you use the Motly iOS app and its Home Screen widget.

For privacy or support questions, email mariacheline@gmail.com.

Information we store on your device

Motly stores the following on your device so the app can work offline and remember your choices:

Home Screen widget

If you add the Motly widget, the app shares a small snapshot of today’s word (and related display settings) with the widget through an iOS App Group on your device. This data stays on your device and is used only to show the word of the day on your Home Screen.

Network requests for word content

To look up definitions, examples, and pronunciations, Motly may send the current word (and language settings needed for the lookup) to third-party services. These requests are made so Motly can show vocabulary content. They are not used for advertising or cross-app tracking. Definitions are shown in English.

Depending on the word and languages you choose, Motly may contact services such as:

Fonts and app resources

The app may load the Outfit font from Google Fonts when online. That request can expose standard network information (such as IP address) to the font provider under their own practices.

What we do not collect

Motly does not require an account and does not intentionally collect names, email addresses, payment details, precise location, contacts, photos, or health data.

Motly does not include third-party analytics, crash-reporting, advertising, or tracking SDKs, and does not use App Tracking Transparency to track you across other companies’ apps or websites.

Optional support (Buy Me a Coffee)

Motly may include a link to Buy Me a Coffee (or a similar tip jar) so you can optionally support the developer. Leaving a tip is voluntary and is not required to use Motly.

If you open that link, you leave Motly and interact with Buy Me a Coffee (or another tip provider) under their own privacy policy and terms. Motly does not process tip payments, does not receive your card details, and does not store donation records on your device.

Supporting Motly this way does not create an account with Motly and does not change what Motly stores on your device.

Data retention and deletion

Because preferences and saved words are stored on your device, you can remove them by deleting the Motly app, or by clearing Motly-related data through iOS settings where available. Uninstalling Motly removes on-device app data, including App Group widget snapshots associated with the app.

Word lookups sent to third-party services are processed under those services’ own retention policies. Motly does not operate a Motly account database of your vocabulary history.

Children

Motly is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Effective date” at the top will change when we do. Continued use of Motly after an update means you acknowledge the revised policy.

App Store privacy labels

Apple also requires App Privacy details in App Store Connect. Those labels should reflect that Motly does not track users, does not create accounts, keeps preferences on device, and may contact dictionary and translation services only to provide word content.
